O'Grady Cup 2009 Victory Dinner
The first event of 2010 was the O'Grady Cup Victory Dinner on Saturday 23rd of January. Over 80 members, including most of the victorious team, attended and a great night of celebration helped to kick off the new year. Entertainment was provided by Suttons own, Donal Branagan.
Valentines Night, Le Francaise
Over 75 of Sutton Golf Club's most romantic members wined, dined and ‘can-canned' on Saturday 13th of Feb. Pacemakers were on overdrive as the evenings finale of 6 ‘follies' danced spun and kicked their way around the dining room dance floor.
Charity Quiz Night
Friday 26th of February the Social Committee under quizmaster par excellence, Catherine O'Neill ran a quiz night in aid of St. Vincent de Paul. Over 17 teams competed on the night with the spoils being won by Captain Owen Morton's table.
Comedy Night - Michael Mee & Aidan Bishop
Described by Time Out, New York as Woody Allen with a Cork Brogue, Michael Mee was the star attraction at the clubs inaugural Comedy Night on Saturday 20th of March. With the Irish rugby team having earlier lost the Triple Crown to Scotland the mood in Sutton was lifted by Michael's self deprecating and observational humour. Complimented by warm up act Aidan Bishop (brother of ‘In the name of the Fada, Des) the attendance on a cold evening left with their spirits lifted and with sore ribs, much like the Irish front row.
Mystery Chef Night
In the end there was no mystery about who the chefs were, even before the night started. Former Captain's and friendly rivals, Vincent and Aubrey, cooked up a storm for over 100 members and four impressed judges. Feasting on Dublin Bay Prawn Cocktail, Smokies, Slow Roasted Rib Eye Steaks and Cajun Spiced Salmon, the eventual winner was Sindy (Vincent) with his Heston Bleumental recipe for Rib Eye Steaks. For his efforts Sindy was cut 2 stars making him now a 3 star chef.
Mid Summer ‘Texas Barbeque'
Sutton's own bandit Declan Branagan with Special guests, Geraldine, Sonny Knowles and Tony Kenny served up one of the best barbeque entertainment menu's in the club for many years.
We have absolute confidence that Donal will surpass this years performance in 2011 - we're already booked out
Diversionary entertainment was provided on the night by a flame act, Ring of Fire Show ; captured here by Mark Patton's photo's of the night.
Viva Las Sutton!
Over 80 members and guests, some dressed in retro style, bopped the night away at our tribute to Elvis show on Saturday 25th of September. Belying the fact that Elvis has been dead for over 30 years, our impersonator had the attendance on the dance floor from the get go taking them from his early R&B classics up to the booming ballads from his final performances in Las Vegas.
Unlike the King who had a fondness for Hamburgers, a meal of Prime Irish Sirloin of Beef was enjoyed by all washed down by more a few bottles of wine.
