Keeping it in the Family

The Captain’s Prize to the Ladies, played over 36 holes in very windy conditions at Sutton Golf Club, was won by Heather Quinn with a score of 62 points.  After the first round Heather, playing off a handicap of 21, was in 18th position and trailed the leading player by 9 points.  However a magnificent score of 35 points, in very testing conditions, propelled her into a winning position by one point.  Not only was this the best score on the day, but she also won the Two’s Competition thanks to an eagle 2 on the 10th.  Billy Quinn was delighted that the pendant, which he had carefully selected, with some assistance from Heather, was going to remain in the family.  Nobody in the Club can recollect when this has happened before, but Nora Connor won her husband Gerry Connor’s prize in 1975 when he was the Club President.  This is the second time Heather has won the Captain’s Prize to the Ladies, as she won Neville Calvert’s prize in 1979.
