ANNESLEY WILLIAMS
PGA 9 HOLE MATCHPLAY
We were honoured and delighted to host The Annesley Williams Skoda 9H Matchplay Championship once again in October at Sutton Golf Club.
9-Hole golf is a hugely important and expanding sector of golf. In these busy times, many working people struggle to find the time for 18-holes. We are very proud of our very special and historic nine hole links course beside Burrow Beach, where golf has been played since 1890.
This year the winner was Neil O’Briain, the Name of Club PRO who won the competition on the 9th Green in a great battle with Niall Kearney of The Royal Dublin Golf Club.
We thank The PGA of Ireland and our own club professional Paddy Devine for bringing this unique championship back to Sutton once again – the only professional 9-hole matchplay event to take place in Ireland and perhaps the only one of its kind in world golf.
We warmly welcomed the Irish PGA professionals who came here from all provinces of Ireland. Matchplay is exciting and great fun, and we know that Sutton Golf Club is the perfect venue for this unique tournament. Matchplay golf over 9 holes leaves very little room for mistakes, and we know that our brilliant and challenging links course will require the utmost skill and concentration.
A huge thank you to Annesley Williams Skoda who remain as our main sponsor, joined by McCartan’s Pharmacies and Cassidy Travel as lead sponsors. Also to Savills for sponsoring the oncourse Pro-Am prizes, and Challenge Medical Indemnity and The Ferryman for kindly supporting our Friday evening and Saturday social events.
Also to our loyal Sutton members who have sponsored tee-boxes and taken teams in the Pro-Am, our Course Superintendent Simon Lewis and his team, our General Manager Jim Kearney and our dedicated catering team led by Ash O’Halloran.
